    Abstract
Human resource management (HRM) is an important managerial process and function related to the management of human capital. One of the main HRM activities is performance management (PM), as the strategic and integrated approach aimed at delivering success to an organization focusing on the improvement of employees’ performance and development. PM provides information for several important HR activities, like career management, training and development, compensation, and contract termination decisions. This paper aimed to investigate the changes that occurred in the process of employees’ performance appraisal process in the context of the Cranet research in Serbia. The objectives of the study were to detect the existence of the usage of formal assessment procedures for performance measurement for different types of employees, the extent of the usage of the appraisal data for other HR activities, and to investigate who is formally responsible for the appraisal process in an organization. The methodology includes the theoretical analysis of the employees’ performance management, as well as the statistical analysis of the comparative data on employees’ PM in 11 Serbia, based on the Cranet research in three different points in time, from 2008/2009, 2015/2016 and 2021. The sample of the study consists of 316 organizations from Serbia, explored in three mentioned periods. The analysis was performed in the SPSS program.
