In 2016–2018 extensive archaeological excavations were conducted on the area of watchtower Visegrád– Szentgyörgypuszta 1, confirming the ground-plan and chronology of the site. Recovered finds affirmed the dating of the site to the Valentinianic refurbishment of military installations on the Danube Bend section of the limes. The research advanced our understanding on the role this watchtower played in the regional military network, including the campaigns of Emperor Valentinian I against the Quadi in AD 374–375.en
