New research conducted in the castellum of Intercisa (Dunaújváros) and watchtower INT-5
Abstract
In 2016, two series of excavations were conducted on the area of the Roman auxiliary fort Intercisa
at Dunaújváros, aimed at confirming and expanding our knowledge on the layout of the defences and
clarifying the purpose of a peculiar wooden structure near the NW gatetower. Through the interpretation
of stone monuments and fragmentary building inscriptions enable establishing the chronology of the
uncertain phases during the end of the 2nd and the beginning of the 3rd centuries.
Another series of excavations were conducted on the area of the watchtower in 2020, revealing additional
features also included in this article.
