Egészségügyi szaknyelvi kommunikáció - hallásértési stratégiák elemzése
Abstract
We can see tremendous changes taking place in the medical profession nowadays. Although doctors and other healthcare professionals have less and less time to spend with their patients, there is an increasing demand that patients be treated holistically. A health care specialist needs to be an efficient communicator, who can deal with patients’ problems, who can understand their situation, who they can turn to, who they can trust. On the other hand, more and more health care graduates go abroad to work where this challenge is intensified by the foreign language and the foreign culture. And even those staying at home, meet an increasing number of foreign patients in Hungarian hospitals and clinics.
Health care specialists are expected to fully attend to their patients, which involves mastering the skills of active listening. On the way to efficient active listening health care specialists have to master basic listening skills first.
My research is focusing on students’ listening strategies, with special emphasis on prior / background knowledge and metacognitive awareness. I believe implementation of findings of this research will help students find the mental techniques to overcome their limited information processing capacity.
